Give a little pop of color...

This fun project is at my friends house. She has a bay window with four blinds... and we spiced it up a little. First, we painted the wall yellow. We taped around the windows since we were not painting the whole room, and this allowed some original wall color to remain, and continue to coordinate with the other walls not getting painted. (not so obvious in this photo)

Then we took the window cornice pieces down.

This is an image of the front and back of the cornice pieces. If you are able to see.... there are two hooks stapled to the back of the cornice that hook over the top of the blinds, hiding the main body of the blinds.

This is fabric you may have seen before if you are an Outta This Funk follower. I was so excited when I found it, I used it in a post. It has colored stitching and sequins, on a shimmering brown silk. I love it, but I've had it for about a year now, and have yet to find anything to make with it.

Well I do now! Here starts the project.
I bought two sheets of foam board and cut them into strips 4.5" wide.

Then I cut my fabric into 12" wide strips, folded it in half (right sides together) and stitched along one edge.
I then held it next to the cornice, determined the length needed (I had 5 windows, one above the sink, and these 4 I showed you which are two different widths) I then stitched the second end the same way.

Turning it right side out, I then slid the foam board into the pocket of fabric.

Here is a close-up of the side -once it's slid in.

Back to the sewing machine, I stitched the pocket closed along the large side opening.
At the back of the cornice, knowing this may not be a permanent thing, I used hot glue to attach the fabric to the cornice, butting the foam board up to the bottom edge of the cornice.
Then stapled the fabric into the cornice a couple of times where the cornice was its widest.
Both the staples and hot glue can be removed later if needed.
Then I hung them back up!
One of the things that made this fabric so great for my friends room... her colors are brown, yellow, and burnt orange.

Oh My DCWV!

K, I rarely impulse buy (big lie) because of being suddenly inspired (total crap) but I did today.

I missed the DCWV warehouse sale, mostly because I forgot, and then while I was in JoAnn’s today buying foamboard (for another post) I saw this adorable matstack, and since I’ve been thinking I really need to sit down and make some birthday cards, etc…. this is just what I need to inspire me to do it… Now, I want to do it today!!! But I have other things I need to work on, so I figured I’d just share my little piece of fun instead of feeling like I can’t do anything with it. It will be great to have it waiting in the wings for me :) (and yes, I'll try to remember to share)

ALSO, while I was at JoAnn’s I found this strange thing.

And it spoke to me... “You want me!”

Well, actually, I don’t know what to do with it. Ya I love it, but I think it’s for a candle, and I don’t burn candles. So, if it were yours, what would you do with it?
I need some suggestions.
